A Pig's Tale: Hog Named Six Seven Spared by Miami Dade County Mayor.

While perhaps not at the identical stature as pardoning festive fowl, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a second term in office.

“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a long and happy life away from worry.”

The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.

The swine, contributed by a first responder, was named for the current slang trend of young people shouting “6-7” – deriving from a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently declared “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.

A Peaceful Retirement

This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“The pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to begin the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.

“It represents the essence of Miami: vibrant, varied, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Each year, we are honored to observe tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”

Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and cafecito as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
