Analysts Identify Kremlin Fear Operation Against Cruise Missile Employment

Russian authorities is implementing a “reflexive control” campaign of threats to deter the America from delivering Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukrainian forces, as reported by conflict researchers. A senior Russian lawmaker remarked: “We are familiar with these projectiles very well, their flight patterns, defensive countermeasures, we encountered them in Syria, so there is nothing new. The providers and those who use them will face consequences … We will find ways to target those who oppose our interests.”

Kyiv's Counteroffensive Progress

Ukraine's military were causing significant casualties in a strategic push in eastern Donetsk region, the primary conflict zone, Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated on midweek. Kyiv's report, derived from a briefing from his top commander, contradicted the Russian president's remarks to high-ranking military personnel a day earlier in which he claimed Moscow's forces held the strategic initiative in throughout the battle lines.

In an assessment from early October, defense researchers said Russia was suffering significant losses, especially due to unmanned aerial vehicle assaults, in compensation of minor territorial gains. Kyiv's troops, the president stated, were “protecting our positions along multiple fronts”, mentioning particularly the Kupiansk area, a heavily damaged urban area in the northeastern front under heavy Russian assaults for months.

Area Developments

Local authorities in the Kherson area of southern Kherson said Russian attacks on Wednesday resulted in three fatalities in and around the urban center of the same name. Administrative officials of the Sumy oblast, on the northern border with neighboring Russia, said three people died in Russian drone attacks in multiple locations. Ukraine's air force said it intercepted or jammed the majority of attack and decoy UAVs through the evening.

An offensive strike seriously damaged a Ukrainian energy facility, authorities said on midweek. Two workers were harmed during the strike, based on information from industry sources. Sources gave no further information, about the plant's location, but national sources said attacks targeted energy infrastructure in northern Ukraine, the Kherson area and south-eastern Dnipropetrovsk regions.

Humanitarian Consequences

In the border community of northeastern Ukraine, severely affected by the military campaign against the electrical grid, local government has put up tents where people can warm up, receive warm beverages, power electronic devices and obtain emotional assistance, as reported by regional head.

International Response

The Ukrainian diplomat to the military alliance on midweek urged European allies to accelerate procurement of American military equipment for Kyiv. “It's not that we prefer US equipment rather than allied or other international equipment – the issue is that we are requesting the US for weapons which EU members don't possess,” said the diplomatic representative.

German federal police will soon be allowed to neutralize drones, security chief said on Wednesday, following multiple UAV observations believed to be Russian efforts to gather intelligence and deter. Announcing legal changes, the official said law enforcement would receive permission “to employ advanced technological measures against UAV risks, including EMP technology, jamming, GPS interference, but also with kinetic methods”.

European Security Concerns

European Commission President said on Wednesday that EU nations need to strengthen its protective capabilities to respond to complex threat operations in response to airspace breaches, digital assaults and damage to undersea cables. “This doesn't represent random harassment. They constitute a systematic and intensifying operation,” the official said in a speech to the European lawmakers. “Two incidents are random chance, but several, many, frequent – that represents a deliberate and targeted hybrid threat strategy against the European Union, and Europe must respond.”

Humanitarian Situation

The Swiss authorities has extended its refugee protection provided to people fleeing Ukraine to at least 4 March 2027. Humanitarian status, which allows people to travel abroad as well as be employed in Switzerland, is generally limited to a single year but can be extended. “This determination shows the persistent unstable environment and ongoing military actions across significant Ukrainian territory,” said a official communication. “Despite international peace efforts, a permanent peace that would permit secure repatriation is not expected in the foreseeable future.”
