Local Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a statement.
Officers report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a individual observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.
The substance had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then located many other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police report preliminary tests suggest the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; investigators are not yet cognizant of any injuries in association with the occurrence," they added.
Local authorities stated they were working "to resolve the case" and have asked to the community for information.
A high-ranking official commented the incident left him stunned and needed to be solved rapidly.
"This event hits the center of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he posted on social media, referring to the death of nine people by a assailant targeting people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
