Fast bowler Gus Atkinson Compounds the English team's Fitness Concerns.

'Serious blow' for England as Atkinson leaves the field suffering a hamstring problem.

Gus Atkinson increased England's injury problems upon exiting the field on the second morning of the Boxing Day Test versus the Australians.

Atkinson experienced discomfort in his left leg immediately following a delivery that he bowled on Saturday.

The touring camp stated the 27-year-old had experienced "tightness" and required time off the field in order to be assessed "over the next few hours".

The final Test in this Ashes battle beginning on 4 January starts at the end of the week.

England have been without fast bowlers Mark Wood with a knee problem and Jofra Archer to a side strain on the current trip.

Matthew Fisher was called up as injury reinforcement.

The seamer had a tough time during the first two matches, taking just a handful of scalps.

He was dropped for the Adelaide match, only to be brought back for the Boxing Day match as Archer's replacement.

Surrey's Atkinson improved at the MCG, claiming a couple of wickets in Australia's first innings, and scoring 28 runs while batting being one of only three teammates to reach double figures.

Post a single over in Australia's second innings, he resumed the next day and removed Scott Boland taken by the wicketkeeper.

Unfortunately, towards the conclusion of that over, he delivered a slower ball to the batsman and immediately felt his left hamstring.

Atkinson returned to the side for the fourth Ashes Test after being left out the Adelaide game.
