Jordan James fires the Welsh team to vital World Cup win versus the Liechtenstein national team.
Wales secured a narrow 1-0 win against less-fancied opponents Liechtenstein to keep alive their hopes of World Cup finals qualifying.
Wales' James claimed his first goal for Wales from close range after the home side's group of full-time players, amateurs and part-timers had defended for over an hour. James celebrated in delight with his obvious relief mirrored by the large contingent of Wales followers occupying multiple stands of the stadium in the capital.
Shortly after, though, Jordan James was shown a yellow card and another yellow for Ethan Ampadu resulted in the two players are suspended for Tuesday’s decisive game with their next opponents due to disciplinary issues.
The home venue match is a game Wales must win to overtake their rivals and secure a more favourable seeding in the qualifying playoffs in March.
Bellamy had an unfamiliar perspective from the stands, the Wales manager undertaking a technical area prohibition after picking up a further caution in the tournament earlier.
The manager's deputy his assistant stood in in the technical area and several key players – James, Ethan Ampadu, Rodon, Williams – were a booking away from sitting out the concluding match. Two of them were booked in moments that may damage their team.
Their opponents, ranked near the bottom in global rankings, had not scored in their winless run and allowed 23 times at an rate of nearly four per game.
The visitors unsurprisingly dominated possession as their hosts adopted a low defensive block and got bodies behind the ball.
The home goal saw little action until Nathan Broadhead high press won possession and Jordan James saw his effort from the penalty area pushed aside by Büchel.
The same combination worked the next opening, James picking out Broadhead this time with a precise pass over the top.
Broadhead’s superb control beat Büchel but the Wrexham striker failed to finish from a difficult angle.
Wales believed they'd taken the lead after the first half when Jordan James directed a lofted Sorba Thomas set-piece back into a crowded penalty box.
The Liechtenstein keeper was under pressure by Dylan Lawlor and Rodon, and his feeble attempt fell to Nathan Broadhead who finished powerfully. But Wales' joy were curtailed when the referee was directed to the VAR screen and ruled that a player of the Wales defenders was in an illegal position from James’s initial touch.
Wales increased the pressure after the interval and Thomas provided a centering pass to the opposite side which the winger struck the crossbar.
Williams then directed his header off target from within the six-yard box as it started to seem like a frustrating evening for the Welsh side.
But, with the game having reached its 61st minute, Neco Williams delivered a clever through ball for Daniel James to run past the Liechtenstein defenders.
James bypassed Büchel with a delightful ball across the face of goal, and his teammate Jordan James had the simple job of ending Welsh tension.
