The Liverpool midfielder has disclosed that the Egyptian forward said sorry to the group of players in the wake of the controversy from his televised remarks.

The Incident

He was omitted from a vital match subsequent to making accusations and claiming his connection to the head coach had broken down.

“Mo is his own man and he can say his own stuff,” Jones told Sky Sports. “He said sorry to the group and was like: ‘If I’ve affected anybody, I apologise.’”

The head coach has refused to reveal on whether he got an explanation from the 33-year-old forward.

Jones insisted that the team's response remained positive. “Nothing about him changed, his demeanour was positive and we all treated him normally,” he continued.

The midfielder also noted that a competitor wanting to play is preferable. “I understand there are certain ways you can handle situations,” he said. “Yet, should someone be happy to just be on the bench, then I think that’s a bigger problem.”

Team Form

The team's performance have remained strong in the games following the initial controversy. Jones believes the Salah's words were not intended to harm the team.

“If passion has boiled over, it has consistently come from a desire to win,” Jones concluded. “It's behind us and we’re building chemistry, getting results and starting to win games.”
