Pat Bamford Signs With the Blades After Leading Abusive Chants Targeting Coach Chris Wilder
Patrick Bamford is now a member of the Championship side only half a year after leading insulting chants targeting the team's coach, Chris Wilder.
The 32-year-old striker, a free agent after departing from Leeds, has put pen to paper on a contract with the second-tier club in difficulty through the winter. Bamford's lengthy career with Leeds was ended by mutual consent in August.
Among the player's final notable acts while at Leeds involved leading insulting songs regarding Chris Wilder amid Leeds' promotion party this spring. Currently, the former England international will be playing for Wilder as Sheffield United's boss looks to lift the team he loves away from the bottom places.
Previous History Involving Bamford and Wilder
Both men had history prior to Leeds earned promotion back to the top flight last season while Sheffield United were defeated in the promotion decider to Sunderland. Wilder described Bamford as “a muppet” when the situation was different during the 2018-19 season and the Blades won direct promotion while Leeds fell short in the playoffs.
Making Amends & Moving Forward
All appears to have been forgiven and forgotten with United, the Championship’s least productive attack, in desperate need of improvement in attack and Bamford hoping to rejuvenate his playing days.
The song about Wilder spread widely in April. An apologetic Bamford along with Leeds boss, Farke, called Wilder the next day.
Chris Wilder commented back then: “Had a conversation with Pat yesterday and I have no problem whatsoever with that. I'm uncertain about the language from a fellow professional! However I valued and admired him calling me.
“We spent 20 minutes and similarly I talked with Daniel as well and had a half-hour chat together and he is a super guy, a class act. When I was playing we would dish it out and accept it and that is an integral part of the game across all levels, even on a Sunday morning. I've got absolutely no issue. I'm fine with the situation and I told him that to Patrick.”
Recent Playing Struggles
The forward made 18 games with Leeds United in the previous campaign however the ex- Forest, Chelsea FC and Middlesbrough striker has struggled with fitness issues in recent years.
