Edwards along with Gary O'Neil are two of the early candidates under consideration to succeed Vitor Pereira as head coach of Wolves.

The previous coach was sacked on the weekend after the squad's 10-match winless start to the Premier League campaign.

Furthermore both candidates - each of whom have historic associations to the team - are part of the options to be evaluated by the Wolves leadership.

The manager is currently at Middlesbrough, which would create a potential hurdle to his hiring at Molineux.

However the ex- Luton Town manager - who made over a century of games for the club during his time as a player - is considered a strong contender for the vacancy.

The 42-year-old is said to have backing from the Wolves directors as they start the process of appointing a new head coach.

O'Neil is additionally appearing as a unexpected contender, even though he would be a surprising choice considering he was sacked by the club in the previous winter.

The former West Ham United midfielder is out of work which means Wolves would not need to provide any compensation.
