Slot Asserts He Feels Secure and Retains Liverpool's Support After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot admitted that it's understandable for doubts to be asked about his future after another convincing loss against the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their ninth defeat in twelve games, marking the club's poorest run after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing night at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I've received significant support from management,” the coach stated.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and earn three points obviously but if you are in a managerial role and not doing well then it's expected that people question you.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my role. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to provide details on his conversations with the club's leadership, Slot said:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me every single minute of the day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “In the normal discussions I perceive the belief. However I've not talked to them after this defeat yet so let’s see.”
Recurring Problems and Player Reaction
Slot highlighted familiar weaknesses from his squad in their European defeat, specifically poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more direct in his view of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder said.
“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond getting mad internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I've watched this club all my life.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a phase such as this with performances so bad.”
He concluded, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And as long as that badge is taken away, we will always battle.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad back to where it needs to be, show everyone once more the values of this club and why people call it the greatest side in the world.”
“But right now, things are bad and it must improve.”
