The former Liverpool manager says coming back to coach Liverpool is theoretically possible.
Jurgen Klopp, who departed from Liverpool in 2024, indicated that a future comeback remains a possibility. The 58-year-old, post a game-changing nine-season tenure that included Champions League success and the Reds’ first league title in 30 years, currently occupies positions in a global football capacity with the Red Bull group and as an advisor for the DFL.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
The club claimed the Premier League under Arne Slot, but many fans who revere Klopp would welcome the possibility of his potential comeback. During an extensive chat, he explained to the podcast host: “I said I won't manage any other side in England. Therefore in case it's my former club...absolutely. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“Being 58, that means I could make the decision later on, who knows. Must I choose now? In that case, I'd stay away. Fortunately, it's not necessary. I can just see what the future brings.”
Conditions for a Comeback
When asked about which situations would need to occur to draw him back to management, Klopp admitted he was not instantly drawn for a comeback. “I don’t even know exactly, I enjoy my current role,” he commented. “No longing for management; I avoid standing under bad weather through long matches; I'm glad to skip media briefings repeatedly each week or doing numerous chats each week.
“The locker room isn't missed as a dressing room, however, dining out alongside the squad having a nice chat, I appreciate that. With many victories so there was often positive atmosphere at the club. I still have Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh ringing in my ears as an instance.”
Praise for His Successor
Klopp was full of praise for his successor, crediting him due to the changes that took the title last term. Liverpool have lost four in a row across various tournaments following significant transfers, yet he dismissed the suggestion of it representing the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, critics will regret with negative comments. A remarkable prospect. Ekitike, incredible player. This is a well-built thoughtfully assembled roster. Fans shouldn't fret about Liverpool, things will improve.”
Heartfelt Words for the Late Forward
He shared movingly on the loss of Diogo Jota, a player he signed while in charge, and the effect at the club. The Portugal international was killed in a car crash with his brother recently.
“How do you replace somebody like Diogo? This isn't just regarding his footballing ability, his personality mattered. It's hard to picture the team environment missing him. I find it difficult to discuss regarding this. A profound tragedy for his teammates as well. Not a single person will ever use it as an excuse but it is the situation. You walk in a dressing room where he was omnipresent. Dealing with that individually is not easy. Unbearable.”
