The Game UN:Me: An Psychological Horror Merging Survival Horror with Among Us Gameplay

The latest Day of the Devs online presentation revealed several fascinating future games, but one in particular has seized the imagination: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player adventure seems to blend the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill game with the paranoid deduction core of Among Us.

"It's a distinctive experience where a girl containing several personalities inside her must escape from a maze of the psyche," explains producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Fractured Mind

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed female protagonist seeming to be of teenage years. Within her exist four separate souls, all possessing their own fears and motivations. These entities can take over spontaneously, unleashing their deep-seated phobias upon her without warning.

Judging by showcased footage, much of the action takes place within a eerie medical facility, though additional clips show the main character navigating a abandoned church.

A World of Individual Dread

"What are you fearful of? What causes you uneasy?" asks creative lead Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Confined spaces. Authority figures. Things that seem trivial to other people can activate a deep instinct within us. This game explores that concept — fears that are unique to each person."

The core gameplay loop revolves around managing whichever soul surfaces at a particular moment. However, these souls will switch against your will during gameplay. While exploring, every persona's fears become exaggerated and attack the protagonist in succession. When the soul changes, so does the particular terror the player experiences.

Unsettling Aesthetics and a Fatal Choice

At first glance, UN:Me shares noticeable visual similarities with the Silent Hill franchise. The setting is populated by nurses who all share the same face, with unnervingly wide smiles. Figures in the waiting room have enormous flowers where their heads are. Floral motifs are a recurring theme, contrasting natural beauty with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me presents a singular mechanic. Players must determine which of the four entities haunting the protagonist is the "real" one. "Each of the souls claims that the physical form is rightfully them," notes a developer. "Throughout the game, you need to figure out who is authentic."

After a player have deduced a persona is fake, they are forced to destroy it. But, because every entity can deceive or obfuscate the reality, it is incredibly simple to choose incorrectly.

"Perhaps you've already eliminated the real [soul] by your own actions," a voice suggests. "The last one remaining might be a fake. Either way, your decisions are final."

UN:Me does not yet have a confirmed launch window, but it is can be follow on platforms.
