The Latest Casual Playlist Ignites Heated Debates Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but includes a few notable adjustments:

  • Each team includes just 8 real players, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
  • Actions done by real players award full XP, while bot actions offer reduced XP.
  • Just a pair of maps can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
  • Elements like Player tags, accolades, and career stat updates have been turned off.

In short, the playlist delivers on its title: it offers a laid-back take of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume it's a good idea, as it gives more options for players seeking different ways to enjoy the game. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it's that you can't please everyone. In other words, a lot of Battlefield 6 fans are upset.

Player Reactions: From Fury to Praise

"People want real players. Don't repeat the errors of your rivals," reads a response to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking concept," says a different user. Meanwhile, in community forums, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," while another details all the issues they consider to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to warm up, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are gamers who actually go outside and can't play this title all the time. Let them strike a balance," adds another. A response on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is great for me," while someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Valid Criticisms and Community Feedback

Despite the support, players have valid points to criticize Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it could increase wait times more extended for different playlists because of the sheer number of playlists currently available. On a similar note, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the current modes. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.

Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide full XP, even against bots, but that got canned when they attempted to remove bot farms from the system. So Casual Breakthrough feels like the community meeting them in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. A different user labels this mode as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I experienced so much fun in the initial release, what prompted them to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?

Should the development team has proven anything to date with the latest installment, it is that they're paying attention and responding to feedback. Assignments that were overly hard got fixed rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics indicates this recent mode isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
