The Much-Awaited 007 Game First Light Faces a Delay, Scheduled for Release in May 2026.
IO Interactive
The launch of the long-awaited James Bond video game, titled 007 First Light, has been pushed back until 27 May 2026.
Initially scheduled for a 27 March release, the title is now set to arrive approximately a couple of months after its initial date.
A Much-Needed Comeback for 007
This project signifies the first video game starring the famous British spy following 2012's 007 Legends, wrapping up a lengthy hiatus for the character in the gaming world.
"007 First Light is completely traversable from the first mission to the last," explained studio IO Interactive. "However, we are taking this extra time to further polish and ensure it meets the demanding benchmarks of our players."
Production Details and Narrative Components
The game is being crafted in association with Delphi Interactive, a studio also behind another major title.
Patrick Gibson, known for Dexter: Original Sin, will star as a young James Bond in what is promoted as a fresh take on the beginnings.
The narrative details Bond as he gets enlisted into MI6 and is granted his coveted 00 status, offering a original plot independent of the films or books.
Star-Studded Cast and Gameplay Glimpses
Adding to the celebrity appeal, artist Lenny Kravitz will perform as the title's main villain.
Released preview videos have highlighted some similarities with IO Interactive's popular Hitman franchise, while also highlighting the signature gadgets and spectacular moments synonymous with Bond.
That said, comments from viewers on these trailers voiced issues regarding how the game looked, citing stuttering and the use of motion blur.
A Major Undertaking
IO Interactive has labeled 007 First Light its "largest-scale project to date."
"We're confident this prepares 007 First Light up for a strong future," the studio stated. "We are grateful for the understanding and continued support we've received."
