The President Invites Families of Attacked Military Personnel to the White House

President Donald Trump revealed on Sunday that he has asked the relatives of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to visit the White House.

He noted that he conversed with her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.

Background on the Tragic Incident

US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a shooting on Wednesday in the nation's capital.

Her fellow service member, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, remains hospitalized in serious condition.

Vigils across the state have occurred in their memory.

White House Offer

The commander-in-chief explained he’s talked about a meeting at the presidential residence for the loved ones of both members of the West Virginia Guard.

“I stated: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a hard experience, come to the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” Trump informed the press. “And likewise with Andrew, whether he recovers or not.”

Community Support

Attendees came together over the past few days at a local school in West Virginia to remember Beckstrom.

Both the soldiers had been working with the state guard as part of the president’s government program to assist law enforcement in the capital.

Paying Tribute to Sarah Beckstrom

“She was the individual that instructors desired. She carried herself with calm resilience, a contagious smile and a optimistic attitude that encouraged people around her,” Hankins, the principal of Beckstrom’s alma mater, told the media. “She was kind, caring and always willing to help others.”

Funeral plans for Sarah are yet to be finalized.

Judicial Steps and Policy Changes

Law enforcement have indicted a twenty-nine-year-old Afghan national with a charge of first-degree murder and charges of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.

The tragedy led the government to halt asylum processing and temporarily stop granting visas to possessors of passports from Afghanistan.

Status of Wolfe

The airman, a native of the city, began his service in early 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, per the news agency.

He continues to receive treatment and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia governor the governor said on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.

Attorney general the attorney general told the program that she also intended to visit his relatives.

Impact of Sarah Beckstrom

“She had a lot of compassion and she definitely had fortitude,” he told the crowd at the vigil. “Though her time was cut short, she has made an impact that’s going to last forever.”
