The Red Devils Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, has been a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the WSL side.

Her exit from Bayern was expected since she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the club's fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant boost to the team's forward line. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when the club appear to be building momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen additional business:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
